Baby Natalie,

On Tuesday you turned 6 months old and you had your 6 month check-up with the doctor today. You are 17 pounds and 13 ounces (my chunky monkey!) and you are 25 1/4 inches long. You fall into the 75th percentile for both height and weight. You’re perfectly healthy.

You drink 30 ounces of formula a day and you’re eating lots of solids. Today you had 2 tablespoons of oatmeal for breakfast, but you didn’t feel good after your shots so you didn’t have your applesauce with your lunch. This afternoon you had your bottle and then ate about 2 ounces of bananas. You’ll probably have either sweet potatoes or peas with dinner. Even though mommy and daddy don’t eat organic, we’ve committed ourselves to feeding you organic baby food until you’re a year old. We don’t know if it’ll actually make you healthier, but we do like the idea of no chemicals and no extra sugar or other stuff added. At least until you’re old enough to have what we eat.

You’re still a great sleeper, just like you’ve always been. You go to bed between 7:30 and 7:45 and sleep until about 6:30 in the morning. Sometimes if you’re fussy, mommy will come into your room and then you lay down and pretend to be sleeping. I don’t know if you mean to do it, but it’s awfully cute.

You like to play on your tummy now and I think we’re going to wake up one morning and you’re going to be crawling because you’re kicking your legs a lot and your arms are getting really strong. You’ve been sitting up for about a week now and you’re getting awfully good at it. You love to sit and bang your toys against the floor. Mommy and daddy are learning to put you on soft floors with carpet so you don’t bang us deaf.

You had your first try with a sippy cup today with some juice diluted with water. You LOVED it. 6 months is a little young for a sippy cup but you like to play with the cup in the bath and pretend to drink out of it so the doctor said to try it and see if you would use a cup and you did! Our big girl! You also like to hold your own bottle, although sometimes early in the morning, or late at night, or if you don’t feel good, you’ll let mommy and daddy do it.

Your favorite toy seems to be your blocks that make noise and you like to chew on anything fabric – towels, washcloths, blankets and everything. We figured you were teething, but you never complained. Yesterday, you cut your first tooth! Other than lots of drool, you don’t seem to hurt or ache or get sick when you are growing teeth. But you have a tiny tip of a tooth on the right side of the bottom middle. We’re expecting the other side any day now. When you grow a couple more teeth you’ll be able to have crackers and you’ll be able to feed yourself.

Mommy and daddy’s favorite thing to do with you is to bring you into our room in the early morning and play with you in bed. Sometimes you pull the sheets over your head and it’s too funny! You seem to like Roxy a lot and you love to pet her. Roxy likes to give you kisses and most of the time you just look surprised. Someday soon you’ll be able to crawl and walk and chase the dog and I hope you and Roxy will be very good friends.

Some of your friends are Isaiah and Bella and AJ from school, but your favorite seems to be Jonathan. He’s only 2 months older than you are and the two of you like to sit and bang things against the ground together. We’ve even got pictures!

Mommy and daddy are so proud of our baby girl. We pray that God continues to bless and protect you.

Lots of love, hugs, and kisses,

Mommy
