This car corners like it’s on rails

Well … yesterday I woke up, went down to my car and discovered my tire was flat. That’s right. Flat. To see how flat it was, click here. See? Flat. Before I moved out to North Carolina I had learned to change my own tire. So, no biggie, I just pull out the jack and lug wrench, fix that sucker and I’m on my way. Except … I’m not strong enough to take the lug nuts off myself. Even the first time we tried to do it, when I was in decent shape, I needed Bryant’s help so I needed to call in a favor, the calvary, my hero, otherwise known as my husband-to-be, Mr. JJ. He came over on his lunch hour, fixed my tire, washed his hands and nonchalantly returned to work. What a knight in shining armor. What a guy. Of course, I then had to take my car in and my parents (very very nicely) paid 400 dollars for new tires. But while I was waiting for my tires to be fixed I had a very good lunch at Bread Co., followed by an expedition to find a salon for makeup and hair for my wedding (done and done – thank you very nice Aveda salon people) and then made a trip to Belk’s to make sure that our china is in for people who want to buy it in Macon, where the lovely and gracious Gayle Borah and her lovely family are throwing JJ and me a shower next weekend. THEN I rewarded myself for my productivity by going to the Marble Slab Creamery and getting a scoop of sweet cream ice cream with fresh strawberries mixed in all encased in a lovely dark chocolate (semi-sweet/bitter – yum!) cone. As I was coming out of the Marble Slab 3 older ladies (70s maybe) were eyeing me – or more accurately, they were eyeing my ice cream! One of them finally said, “Oh we were just admiring your dessert there!” I had an inspiration and the following conversation ensued …

me: Oh, yes. It’s quite good.
nice lady: Are those STRAWBERRIES?
me: Yes they are. They will mix fresh fruit in with your ice cream here.
nice lady: That just looks so delicious!
me: I’ll make you an offer – would you mind if I bought you and your friends here each an ice cream cone?
nice lady: *looks at Angela as though Angela is crazy*
me: I’m serious – I will buy you each a fresh strawberry ice cream cone if you’d like!
nice lady: That’s very sweet of you but … we’ll just watch you enjoy yours

The point of the story is – when there are 3 older ladies watching you eat ice cream it seems like you’re 10 times more likely to drip all over your hands, worry that your ice cream is going to fall off the cone, and wonder whether there’s melted ice cream all over your mouth.

Last night we went to Curtis and Rachel’s for Curtis’ Shai Awards party. I made yummy bruschetta and there was lots of other yummy stuff there, too. (I’ve picked up the use of the word yummy – thanks a lot JJ and Sabrina :-p) There were wings from WingStop and someone made a really good pasta salad, and creamy dip for chips, cookies and just lots and lots of food. Jamie and Rob (who flew in from London yesterday) came and hung out with everyone. Around 10:30, though, it was past my bedtime. Lots of fun.
